On May 8, NBA Hall of Fame icon Vlade Divac took part in the 'Freedom 250 Slam Dunk Experience' held at the American Centre in New Delhi. This event was organized by the US Embassy in partnership with the Sacramento Kings.

The basketball clinic gathered student-athletes from various institutions, including Nehru World School, Shiv Nadar School, Delhi Public School RK Puram, Kendriya Vidyalaya JNU, Uttam Girls School, and The Dribble Academy. The session aimed to foster cultural exchange through sports, allowing students to learn basketball basics, participate in skill-building activities, and shoot hoops alongside Divac and representatives from the Sacramento Kings on the American Centre lawn.

The event also highlighted the rising popularity of youth basketball in India, particularly celebrating Nehru World School's recent achievement in winning the boys' title at the ACG Jr. NBA 3v3 National Tournament, which is the largest school-based basketball program for players under 14 in India.

Divac's Vision for Basketball Development in India

In a media interaction, Vlade Divac expressed his enjoyment in connecting with the young participants at the 'Freedom 250 Slam Dunk Experience' and praised their basketball abilities. He remarked, "All the boys and girls of Delhi had a lot of fun showcasing their basketball skills. I was pleasantly surprised by how good they were."

Divac conveyed his admiration for India and its people, emphasizing his desire to contribute to the development of basketball, particularly among the youth. While acknowledging cricket's dominance in the country, he encouraged the exploration of other sports. He stated, "India is a vast country with wonderful people, and we are eager to assist in nurturing basketball, especially for children. Cricket is undoubtedly the national sport, and it should be cherished, but there are other sports as well, and if they feel passionate about them, we are here to support their growth."
