According to the information, this feature was started on Instagram in 2023. The direct purpose of end-to-end encryption was to keep users’ chats completely secure so that only the sender and receiver of the message can read them. But everything has changed in 2026 and the company had given this information in a blog post in March. Along with this, Meta had also said that users whose chats will be affected by this change will also be given the option to download their media and messages.
Why has the tension of danger increased now?
After the removal of end-to-end encryption, concerns about cyber security on the app have increased. In such a situation, it is also being said that it will become easier for hackers to access chats. Which clearly means that your personal conversations will not be as secure as before.
The removal of this feature on Instagram has created fear in the minds of people that it might also be removed from WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. But Meta has not yet given any information regarding this.
Why did Meta take such a big decision?
If we look at the information given in the reports, the reason behind this is being said to be the safety of children. Because in March 2026, a jury in New Mexico had asked Meta to pay $375 million, the reason for which was the safety of children.
After removing this feature, experts also say that after removing the end-to-end encryption, the company will be able to scan the messages if needed, so that activities like objectionable content to children, grooming and online harassment can be detected and stopped.
