Sylhet, Sylhet: Bangladesh women’s team captain Nigar Sultana Joti has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third T20I match against Sri Lanka in Sylhet on Saturday. According to an ICC media release, Nigar was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ‘ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel’, which relates to “misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, on-field equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match”.

Additionally, one demerit point has also been added to Nigar’s disciplinary record; This was his first offense in the last 24 months. The incident occurred when Bangladesh were batting and after being dismissed, Nigar had thrown his bat on the ground while leaving the field.

Nigar pleaded guilty and accepted the punishment proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Match Referee Panel, so no formal hearing was required.

On-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Shathira Zakir JC, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Champa Chakma had made this allegation against Nigar.

Level 1 violations are punishable by a minimum official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50 percent of the player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka women’s team whitewashed Bangladesh 3-0 in the recently played three-match T20I series. Sri Lanka won the first T20I by 25 runs, followed by a 21-run win in the second match. The third and final T20I match was reduced to nine overs for each team due to rain, with Sri Lanka winning narrowly by three runs.
