Petrol-Diesel Prices on May 11: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the citizens of the country to exercise restraint in their usage of petroleum products, citing the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. He virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for projects worth approximately ₹9,400 crore in Telangana. During the event, he emphasized that imported fuel should be utilized only when absolutely necessary.

He stated that such restraint would lead to savings in foreign exchange and mitigate the impact of economic shocks resulting from international conflicts. PM Modi remarked, "However, the need of the hour today is also to use petrol, gas, diesel, and similar commodities with great restraint. We must utilize imported petroleum products strictly according to our requirements. This will not only conserve foreign currency but also help minimize the adverse effects of the ongoing conflict."

Losses for Oil Companies

PM Modi's appeal to the nation comes at a time when reports regarding potential hikes in petrol and diesel prices have been making significant headlines. The global energy crisis has deepened due to the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States. This situation has impacted the supply of crude oil, creating a sense of global turmoil. Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices in India have remained stable for a prolonged period, resulting in daily losses of approximately ₹1,600–₹1,700 crore for oil marketing companies.

What Are the Prices Today?

As of today, May 11, 2026, petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged across India's major cities. The last revision in fuel prices within the country took place in the year 2022. However, some private fuel retailers—such as Shell—have implemented changes to their pricing.
