Maleesha was born on January 13, 2008 in Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum settlement. Her father, Mukesh Kharwa, was a clown at kids’ parties and earned enough money to feed the family as life was a daily struggle of cramped homes and financial hardship.



Despite the hardships, Maleesha dreamed of a different future. Inspired by stars like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, she imagined herself walking fashion runways and appearing on magazine covers one day. Friends and neighbours often reminded her of society’s rigid beauty standards. Maleesha’s life took a dramatic turn around 2020 when American actor and producer Robert Hoffman visited Mumbai. He noticed her confidence and camera presence and decided to introduce her story to a wider audience. chose her as the face of its “Yuvati” campaign.
