Shocking! Kent signs spinner on "loan," to play in Vitality Blast and some County Championship before moving back to Warwickshire

Kent have secured the services of left-arm wrist spinner Jake Lintott on loan from Warwickshire until July 19, adding a specialist short-format option ahead of the Vitality Blast campaign and a run of County Championship fixtures. The 33-year-old will be available in all formats during the temporary move, with Kent beginning their Blast season against Middlesex at Lord’s on May 22.

Lintott is already set to leave Warwickshire permanently at the end of the current season, making the loan arrangement a convenient midpoint between transition and utility. His last appearance for the Bears came during their Blast quarter-final defeat to Somerset in September, but Kent have opted to bring in his experience before another summer where every county suddenly rediscovers the importance of variation bowling around May.

Kent director of cricket Simon Cook said the spinner would provide tactical flexibility across competitions. Cook said,

“We're delighted to welcome Jake into the group for the next block of first-team fixtures. He provides us with an extra dimension to our bowling attack in all formats, and will complement the spin options we have to give us more tactical flexibility.”

Blast specialist arrives with proven T20 record

Lintott built his reputation primarily in T20 cricket, collecting 90 wickets in the Blast at an average of 22.77. Despite spending several years in the professional game, he has made only three first-class appearances.

His route into county cricket was unconventional. Before joining Warwickshire in 2020, Lintott worked as a teacher and entered the professional circuit through a trial period that eventually earned him a full-time contract the following year.

The spinner gained wider recognition during the 2021 Blast season after taking 21 wickets, performances that secured him a wildcard selection for the inaugural edition of The Hundred. Representing Southern Brave, he finished as their leading wicket-taker and helped the side lift the title.

Lintott later featured for England Lions in a 50-over fixture against South Africa in what also became his List A debut.

Overseas leagues and County Championship availability confirmed

Beyond domestic cricket, Lintott has participated in several franchise competitions, including the Caribbean Premier League, Bangladesh Premier League and Abu Dhabi T10. Though he went unsold in this year’s Hundred draft, a productive run with Kent could revive wildcard discussions later in the season.

Kent also confirmed that Lintott will be available for County Championship Division Two matches against Durham, Lancashire and Middlesex during the loan spell.

The agreement strengthens Kent’s spin resources during a congested period of the season while Warwickshire continue preparing for a post-Lintott future that, technically, had already been scheduled anyway.
