Amid rising global tensions and growing concerns over fuel consumption, Yogi Adityanath has introduced a series of new measures aimed at promoting energy conservation, administrative discipline, and responsible public conduct within the Uttar Pradesh government.
The move comes after Narendra Modi urged citizens to reduce unnecessary fuel usage and adopt public transport wherever possible. Concerns over global energy markets have increased due to ongoing instability in the Middle East, prompting discussions around fuel conservation and sustainable resource management.
Responding to the situation, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister emphasized that reducing petrol and diesel consumption is not only an economic necessity but also a national responsibility. He stated that ministers and senior officials should lead by example and encourage citizens to adopt more sustainable lifestyles.
Ministers Directed to Use Public TransportUnder the new administrative guidelines, ministers in Uttar Pradesh have been instructed to use public transportation at least one day every week.
The Chief Minister specifically encouraged the use of environmentally friendly and shared transportation options, including:
- Metro services
- Public buses
- E-rickshaws
- Carpooling
- Bicycles
According to the government, the initiative is intended to reduce fuel consumption while also sending a positive message to the public about sustainable transportation practices.
Officials believe that visible participation by ministers and senior bureaucrats could encourage ordinary citizens to rely more on public transport and reduce unnecessary use of private vehicles.
Vehicle Fleets to Be ReducedIn another major step, the Chief Minister directed ministers to reduce their official vehicle fleets by 50 percent.
The government says this decision is aimed at improving administrative efficiency and minimizing unnecessary fuel expenditure. The move is also being seen as an attempt to promote a culture of simplicity and accountability within the administration.
Political observers note that the decision reflects the government’s broader focus on austerity and resource management during uncertain global economic conditions.
Foreign Travel Restrictions for OfficialsThe Uttar Pradesh government has also advised ministers and senior officials to avoid foreign travel for the next six months unless the trip is considered absolutely essential.
The administration believes limiting non-essential overseas visits can help reduce government expenditure while reinforcing the message of disciplined governance.
Officials were reportedly informed that only highly important international engagements should receive approval during this period.
Push for Digital and Hybrid Work CultureTo reduce unnecessary travel and improve efficiency, the government has also emphasized adopting digital and hybrid working systems across departments.
The Chief Minister directed that district-level meetings, training programs, and standing committee meetings of the Assembly and Legislative Council should be conducted in hybrid mode wherever possible.
Additionally, institutions with more than 50 employees have been advised to implement work-from-home arrangements for at least two days every week.
The government believes these measures can help lower fuel use, reduce traffic congestion, and improve overall productivity.
Energy Saving Measures in Government OfficesThe new guidelines also include several energy conservation rules for government offices.
Departments have been instructed to:
- Maintain air conditioner temperatures between 24°C and 26°C
- Limit unnecessary use of elevators
- Maximize the use of natural lighting
Officials say these steps are intended to reduce electricity consumption and promote responsible energy usage across government institutions.
The administration is also reportedly encouraging the adoption of solar energy solutions and electric vehicles as part of its long-term sustainability plans.
Government Aims to Promote Responsible GovernanceThe Uttar Pradesh government says the overall objective behind these measures is to create a more disciplined, efficient, and environmentally conscious administrative culture.
By encouraging public transport, reducing fuel consumption, limiting luxury spending, and promoting digital work systems, the government aims to set an example of responsible governance during a time of global uncertainty.
The initiative is expected to remain a major topic of discussion in political and administrative circles as departments begin implementing the new directives in the coming weeks.
