Yadgir: A 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the main canal near Kembhavi town on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Shivakumar, son of Sharanayya Bommanajogi, a resident of Kembhavi town.
According to reports, Shivakumar had gone to the canal with his friends for swimming as usual. He allegedly got caught in the strong water current and drowned after being unable to swim back to safety.
Family members and local residents rushed to the spot after learning about the incident and later retrieved the boy’s body from the water.
The death of the teenager has left the family devastated, and the incident has created a sombre atmosphere in the town.
Police officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered at the Kembhavi Police Station.
Locals urged parents to keep a close watch on children, especially during summer, as water flow in canals remains strong and dangerous for those going for swimming.
