When is Masik Shivratri in May 2026?
According to the Panchang, Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month will start from 08:31 am on Friday, May 15, which will continue till 05:11 am on the next day i.e. Saturday, May 16. Since monthly Shivratri fast is worshiped at night and this situation is being created on 15th May, hence monthly Shivratri fast will be observed on this day and worship will be done at night.

15 May 2026 Shivratri fast auspicious time
During monthly Shivratri, Lord Shiva is worshiped 4 times in the night i.e. in all four Prahars. If one is not able to do night vigil, then one can get the full benefits of this fast by doing puja during Nishith period. On Friday, May 15, the puja time for Shivratri fast will be from 11:57 pm to 12:33 pm.
Know the worship method and mantra of Shivratri fast
- On the morning of Friday, May 15, after taking bath etc., take a pledge to fast and worship. Follow the rules of fasting throughout the day.
Before the beginning of the auspicious time, collect the puja materials at one place and start the puja when the auspicious time begins.
- First anoint Lord Shiva with water, then anoint him with cow's milk and once again with water.
- After this, offer flowers to Mahadev and apply tilak with sandalwood. Also light a lamp of pure cow's ghee.
- Offer flowers, Bilva leaves, Dhatura etc. things to Mahadev. Keep chanting Om Namah Shivay mantra.
- Offer fruits and other things to Mahadev and perform Aarti. Follow celibacy at night.
- Next day i.e. 16th May, Saturday morning, after serving food to the Brahmins, have food yourself.
- By observing fast in this way, one can get every happiness in life and get the blessings of Mahadev.
