Mumbai Another big shock of inflation has come to the fore for the people living in the metropolitan Mumbai and its surrounding areas (MMR). Hours after the central government increased the import duty on gold, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the prices of CNG by ₹ 2 per kg. This is the second time within the last one month that gas prices have been increased.
New rates implemented: Know how much your pocket will be empty now
After this latest increase, the price of CNG has increased from ₹82 to ₹84 per kg in areas like Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar. It is noteworthy that last month also the prices were increased by ₹ 1 per kg. The continuously increasing prices have given sleepless nights not only to private vehicle owners but also to auto and taxi drivers.
Auto and taxi fares likely to increase
As gas prices have increased, the city’s transport unions have also tightened their stance.
-
Auto Union: Mumbai Rickshawmen Union leader Thampi Kurian has said that rising fuel prices have significantly increased the operational cost. The union is now demanding an increase in the minimum fare by at least ₹1.
-
Taxi Union: According to sources, the taxi unions have demanded an increase of ₹ 2 in the per kilometer fare. A meeting with the Transport Commissioner can be held soon in this regard.
Why did the prices increase? MGL told about compulsion
According to Mahanagar Gas Limited officials, international conditions have forced the prices to increase. The global energy supply chain has been affected due to the Hormuz crisis. Rising prices of crude oil in the international market, dependence on expensive gas sources and record weakness of the rupee against the dollar have significantly increased the input cost. However, it is a matter of relief that there has been no change in the prices of PNG used in kitchen at present.
Savings claim: Still cheaper than petrol and diesel
Despite the increase in prices, MGL claims that CNG is still economical compared to conventional fuel. According to company data, even at current rates, use of CNG provides savings of about 44 percent compared to petrol and 7 percent compared to diesel.
Condition of Delhi and Noida
While prices are increasing in Mumbai, there is currently peace in Delhi and Noida. The price of CNG in Delhi is stable at ₹77.09 per kg, while in Noida it is being sold at ₹85.70 per kg.
