Indian Railways has introduced a new summer special train service between Haridwar and Barmer to manage the growing passenger crowd during the summer vacation and pilgrimage season. The special train service has been launched to reduce pressure on regular trains and provide more comfortable travel options for passengers travelling between Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.
Railway authorities say the special service will operate twice a week in both directions and is expected to provide significant relief to travelers facing heavy booking demand during the peak summer period.
The train will include AC coaches, sleeper coaches, and general compartments to accommodate passengers from different travel categories and budgets.
Summer Special Train to Run Twice Every WeekAccording to railway officials, train number 04811 will operate from Barmer to Haridwar between May 11 and July 16, 2026. During this period, the train will depart every Monday and Thursday from Barmer.
Similarly, train number 04812 will run from Haridwar to Barmer between May 12 and July 17, 2026. This service will operate every Tuesday and Friday.
Railway authorities have planned a total of 20 trips in each direction during the special operation period. Officials believe the additional train service will help thousands of passengers who struggle to secure confirmed tickets during the busy travel season.
Timings of the Haridwar-Barmer Summer Special TrainAs per the schedule released by Indian Railways:
- Train number 04811 departing from Barmer will leave at 4:15 AM and reach Haridwar the following morning at 4:10 AM.
- Train number 04812 departing from Haridwar will start at 5:15 AM and arrive in Barmer the next morning at 6:35 AM.
Railway officials say the timings have been designed carefully to make long-distance travel more convenient for passengers, especially families and pilgrims travelling during the summer months.
AC, Sleeper, and General Coaches IncludedTo improve passenger convenience, the summer special train has been equipped with multiple travel class options. The train will feature:
- Air-conditioned coaches
- Sleeper class coaches
- General compartments
This arrangement is expected to help passengers from different income groups travel comfortably according to their preferences and budget.
The inclusion of general coaches may especially benefit passengers travelling on short notice during the busy holiday season.
Why Railways Introduced the Special ServiceEvery year, train routes connecting religious and tourist destinations witness a sharp rise in demand during summer vacations. Haridwar remains one of India’s major pilgrimage destinations, attracting lakhs of devotees and tourists from across the country.
At the same time, Rajasthan routes also experience heavy seasonal travel demand because many families travel during school holidays and festival periods.
Railway officials say the decision to introduce the Haridwar-Barmer Summer Special train was taken after monitoring increasing passenger pressure on existing services operating on the route.
The special train is expected to reduce waiting lists and improve travel availability for passengers unable to get confirmed reservations on regular trains.
Relief for Pilgrims and Long-Distance TravelersThe new service could prove especially useful for pilgrims visiting Haridwar, one of the country’s most important spiritual destinations located on the banks of the Ganga River.
In addition to religious travelers, migrant workers, families, students, and tourists travelling between Rajasthan and Uttarakhand may also benefit from the added connectivity.
Experts believe summer special trains play an important role during peak travel seasons by easing congestion and improving passenger convenience across the railway network.
Passengers Advised to Book EarlySince demand for special trains generally remains high during holiday periods, passengers are being advised to complete reservations early to secure confirmed seats.
Tickets for the Haridwar-Barmer Summer Special train are expected to be available through railway reservation counters as well as online booking platforms.
With the launch of this additional service, Indian Railways aims to provide smoother travel experiences and better crowd management during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
