Sai Sudharsan surpass Shaun Marsh in T20 record after KKR vs GT clash in Kolkata

The Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan entered the elite T20 history, becoming the fastest batter to score 3000 runs in T20 cricket. Sai achieved this record while playing ofr Gujarat Titans on May 16 in Kolkata at the Eden Gardens. 

 

Even though his team could not win the match, he surpassed the Australian Shaun Marsh, becoming the fastest one to reach the feat. Marsh who played for Kings XI Punjab, took 85 innings to reach 3000 runs,, while Sai just took 78.

Sai Sudharsan scored his 5th fifty of this season and his 17th fifty of IPL career. Sai had a brief break while batting on 23 after a ball from Kartik Tyagi hit his elbow. However, he came back and completed his half-century in the final over, standing not out at 53 from 28 balls.

Notably, Sai scored a century off 58 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 24. His innings included 11 boundaries and 5 maximums.

KKR keeps playoff hopes alive; GT awiats qualification

 

At the Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Gujarat Titans by 29 runs in a high-scoring IPL 2026 clash to keep their playoff hopes alive. Riding on explosive knocks from Finn Allen and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, KKR piled up a massive 247/2 after being asked to bat first.

 

Allen smashed 93 off just 35 balls with 10 sixes at a strike rate of 265.71, while Raghuvanshi remained unbeaten on 82 from 44 deliveries. Cameron Green added the finishing touch with an unbeaten 52 off 28 balls as KKR hammered 108 runs in the final eight overs.

 

In reply, Gujarat Titans fought hard through Shubman Gill’s 85 off 49 and Jos Buttler’s 57 from 35 deliveries. Sai Sudharsan also struck an unbeaten 53 after returning from a brief injury scare.

 

However, the asking rate kept climbing despite GT reaching 177/1 in the 16th over. Sunil Narine turned the game with two crucial wickets, including Gill’s dismissal, while KKR restricted GT to 218/4 to register a vital victory.
