Emergency responders rushed to a UK beauty spot after a body was found in the area. PSNI officers were called to the beach in Whiterocks, Northern Ireland, on Sunday, May 17, following the tragic discovery.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Police are currently in attendance after a body was found on the beach in Whiterocks today, Sunday 17th May." PSNI are urging members of the public to stay away from the area, and have said cordons have been set up.
The statement continued: "Cordons are in place and the public is asked to avoid the area at this time."
Deputy Mayor Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Richard Brown Stewart, expressed his sadness and praised the work of the emergency services, BelfastLive reports.
He said: "I was deeply saddened to learn of the discovery of a body at the Whiterocks this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased at what will be an incredibly difficult and distressing time for them.
"I also want to pay tribute to the emergency services and all those involved in responding to the incident with professionalism, dignity and care.
"I would ask people to respect the privacy of the family as investigations continue."
