Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has departed Chelsea after spending just a single season with the club, sealing a £25 million ($33m) move to Everton. The midfielder had joined the Blues last summer following a five-year spell at Leicester City. However, under Enzo Maresca, he found game time hard to come by at Stamford Bridge, featuring in only 13 Premier League matches and amassing just 258 minutes on the field.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As reported by The Athletic, Chelsea initially valued Dewsbury-Hall at £30m ($39.8m) — the same fee they had paid Leicester City for him the previous summer. However, Everton successfully negotiated a reduced transfer price of £25m, finalising the deal with the London club.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Blues have already invested more than £243m ($324m) in new signings during the current transfer window and are now focused on trimming their squad. Following Dewsbury-Hall’s departure, midfielders Lesley Ugochukwu and Carney Chukwuemeka are also potential exits before the window closes.
WHAT DEWSBURY-HALL SAID
Speaking after putting pen to paper with Everton, the 26-year-old shared his enthusiasm: “Everton is one of the biggest clubs in the country, and I believe the future here looks really bright in the next few years. In the end, it was an easy decision to come and play for this club. When you look at the stadium — it’s incredible. I’ve played at all the Premier League grounds, and this one stands out as one of the most impressive, which made the move even more exciting.”
He added, “The fan base is among the most passionate in England. I know that if we start performing well and I show the supporters what I can bring, it will be a massive boost for both me and the team to perform at our best. That’s exactly what I’m aiming for.”
WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA?
Enzo Maresca’s side are scheduled to play two pre-season friendlies at home this week against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, as they prepare for the 2025-26 Premier League season opener against Crystal Palace on August 17.
