Manchester United and Chelsea, despite their intense rivalry on the field, have never hesitated to engage in transfer dealings when opportunities align.

In the past few years, Manchester United secured the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, while the Blues have shown interest in strengthening their frontline by targeting Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho.

Now, the Red Devils are reportedly monitoring another product of Chelsea’s renowned academy. However, this time, there appears to be a more defensive stance from the London club.

As reported by journalist Ben Jacobs, Manchester United hold a strong admiration for Chelsea’s versatile defender Josh Acheampong.

The 20-year-old English defender, known for his adaptability across defensive positions, has earned praise for his combination of physical presence—standing at 6ft 3in—and composure on the ball, marking him as a prototype of the modern defender.

Alongside United, both Manchester City and Bayern Munich are also said to be keeping close tabs on Acheampong’s development.

Nevertheless, Jacobs notes that Chelsea have turned down several enquiries from both domestic and European clubs for their highly-rated youngster.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano further revealed that two Premier League sides had made attempts to secure Acheampong’s signature.

Acheampong, who featured in 17 Premier League matches in the previous season, remains under contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2029. The club reportedly views him as untouchable and intends to make him a key part of Xabi Alonso’s long-term strategy at Stamford Bridge.

Interestingly, Marcus Rashford could also be a part of Alonso’s plans for the upcoming season.

According to The Daily Mail, although Rashford—currently on loan at Barcelona—wishes to continue his stint in Spain, his representatives believe Chelsea could emerge as a potential destination if a suitable offer arrives and circumstances change.

Rashford’s addition would represent a significant boost compared to his former Manchester United teammate Garnacho, who has so far struggled to find consistency in a Chelsea shirt.
