Persib Bandung defender Frans Putros has officially been named in Iraq’s national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
BOLASPORT.COM – Frans Putros has been confirmed as part of Iraq’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the announcement by head coach Graham Arnold on Monday (1 June 2026).
The Persib Bandung centre-back received the exciting news shortly after the conclusion of the 2025/26 Super League season.
Putros had just guided Persib to win the Super League title in his debut season in Indonesia.
The Denmark-born player joined the Indonesian league as an active member of the Iraq national team.
He had previously faced the Indonesian national team during the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
This season, Putros will be one of the few players from the Indonesian League to feature in the 2026 World Cup.
The former Viborg and Port FC defender was a regular call-up for Iraq throughout their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Eventually, head coach Graham Arnold finalised the 26-man squad on Monday (1 June 2026).
Putros officially became one of the players travelling to football’s biggest stage.
The squad also includes prominent names such as Jalal Hassan, Zidane Iqbal, Ali Jassim, and Mohanad Ali.
“Yes, of course I feel very proud and happy. It has been 40 years since we last qualified, the last time was in 1986 in Mexico,” said Putros on the official I.League website.
“This is a proud moment for me, for the entire team, and for all the people of Iraq, as well as my family back home. It’s something very special and one I will remember forever.”
“I feel a lot of support. I am very grateful to the Bobotoh fans,” he added.
Putros made a total of 36 appearances for Persib across the Super League and Asian Champions League 2.
With the Iraq national team, he has earned 26 international caps.
The Mesopotamian Lions are grouped with Senegal, Norway, and France in Group I.
This means Putros could potentially face world-class forwards such as Sadio Mane, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappe.
