Taking a major step towards digital governance, the Telangana government has launched school education services via WhatsApp for students and parents across the state. This unique initiative was formally inaugurated at a grand event held at Hyderabad's historic LB Stadium. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy flagged off the scheme, dedicating it to the public. The government estimates that this technology will directly benefit over 18 lakh school students in the state.
This state-of-the-art platform has been developed by the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD)—or 'Meeseva'—division of the Information Technology, Electronics, and Communications (ITE&C) Department. Its primary objective is to spare students and parents the hassle of making repeated visits to government offices and dealing with tedious paperwork. To make the service more engaging, the state bird, 'Palapitta', has been introduced as a friendly mascot that will convey essential information to the public through short video messages.
**Integration of Essential Services**
During a successful one-year trial period, lakhs of students have already used this platform to easily download important documents such as progress reports, exam results, hall tickets, mark sheets, old SSC memos, and transfer certificates. Now, in the next phase of the project, several other essential services are being integrated. Parents will receive live updates on WhatsApp regarding their children's daily attendance and the distribution of school uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks. Additionally, the platform will provide information on pre-matric scholarship applications, mid-day meal quality, health and wellness programs, and welfare schemes for residential schools. Parents will also be able to submit their feedback or grievances.
