Manchester United’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements has led them to Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha, though the Premier League giants may have to make a substantial financial commitment if they wish to bring the German star back to England this summer. The 25-year-old Germany international has drawn widespread attention after his standout performances at the World Cup, where he has significantly enhanced his reputation on football’s biggest stage.

Nmecha found the back of the net and provided an assist during Germany’s emphatic 7-1 victory over Curacao, before adding another assist in their clash against Ivory Coast.

His impressive form has only intensified interest from several Premier League sides, including Manchester United. While United’s interest in the midfielder is understood to be genuine, the club has yet to submit a formal offer. Dortmund, however, are expected to be tough negotiators.

Reports from TEAMtalk suggest that United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, has maintained close contact with Nmecha’s representatives.

Vivell’s familiarity with the German football market could play a key role in discussions, as United seek midfield options that combine strength, technical ability, and long-term potential.

Nmecha also shares a notable connection with Manchester. He previously spent time in Manchester City’s academy before departing England to continue his senior career in Germany, first at Wolfsburg and later at Dortmund. This background may make a return to the Premier League an attractive prospect for the player.

According to German outlet Kicker, Dortmund are unwilling to sell Nmecha for less than €100 million, which equates to approximately £86 million.

The midfielder’s current contract runs until 2030, and with no release clause active this summer, Dortmund retain full control over his future.

From Manchester United’s perspective, Nmecha represents an understandable target. He is physically robust, composed in possession, capable of progressing the ball, and possesses the attributes suited to the demands of English football.

His World Cup displays for Germany underline his ability to perform under pressure. United’s interest is therefore justified, though the club would be wise to approach the situation with patience rather than urgency.

There is little doubt that Nmecha would strengthen United’s midfield, but an £86 million outlay remains a significant investment for a player who is still evolving into a top-tier performer.

Should Dortmund relax their valuation, United would be well-placed to move quickly. For now, however, the situation appears more like one to monitor closely rather than an immediate transfer to pursue aggressively.
