After the scorching sun and scorching heat, the dark clouds in the sky and the cool showers of rain give immense peace to the mind. But this U-turn of the weather creates many new and serious challenges for our skin. With the arrival of monsoon, the humidity level in the air suddenly increases, due to which the sticky humidity completely disturbs the natural balance of the skin.

In this season, most of the problems are seen on the face. Many people suddenly have to face stubborn pimples/acne, extremely oily skin and small pimples on the face. Although this problem mainly troubles people with oily or acne-prone skin (who get acne easily), but even people with dry and normal skin are not untouched by this problem during monsoon. Let us know why the attack of acne on the skin increases in this season and by adopting which easy habits you can get a spotless and glowing skin.

After all, why does acne increase during monsoon? 4 main reasons behind this

According to meteorologists and dermatologists, changes in the environment are directly responsible for the appearance of acne on the skin during rainy days:

  • Polluted rain water: The water of initial or continuous rain is not completely pure. Pollution, dust particles and acidic elements present in the atmosphere mix with rain water and stick to our skin. Due to this, the problem of irritation, redness and small pimples starts in the skin.

  • Clogging of Skin Ports: Due to the heavy humidity of monsoon, the pores on our face open more than usual. Dirt, sweat and pollution floating in the air easily get inside these open pores, due to which the pores get blocked (closed) and they take the form of blackheads or big pimples.

  • Orgy of bacteria and fungus: The combination of excess moisture and heat is considered to be the most suitable environment for the growth of bacteria and fungus. In this season, bacteria called ‘Acne Vulgaris’ grow rapidly on the face, which causes swelling and pus-filled pimples in the skin.

  • Hobby of junk food and samosas and pakodas: As soon as it rains, we feel like eating things like fried, spicy and junk food. But this oily diet doubles the production of ‘sebum’ (natural oil of the skin) inside our body, due to which the face becomes more oily.

7 easy and home remedies to get rid of acne in monsoon

If you also want to keep your skin glowing and acne-free this season, then include these 7 small but very effective habits in your daily routine:

1. Make a rule for deep cleansing of the face.

Wash your face with a mild and pH-balanced face wash at least 2 to 3 times a day. It is best to use face washes containing Salicylic Acid or Neem during monsoon, as they pull out excess oil from the skin.

2. Use anti-acne toner

After washing your face, do not forget to apply toner to tighten the pores. This season, use alcohol-free toner, tea tree oil or toner made from pure aloe vera and rose water. This will help in controlling extra oil in your skin.

3. Gentle exfoliation twice a week

Use a mild scrub or chemical exfoliator twice a week to remove dead skin cells and dirt. Keep in mind that if there are already active or painful acne on the face, then completely avoid granular scrubs that rub vigorously, otherwise the infection may increase further.

4. Never skip applying moisturizer

Many people think that the face is already sticky, so what is the need for moisturizer? This is a huge misconception. When you do not provide moisture to the skin, the brain perceives the skin as dry and signals it to produce more oil. Therefore, in this season, choose only water-based, gel-formula or non-comedogenic moisturizer.

5. Avoid sunlight hidden behind clouds: Sunscreen is necessary

Even if the sky is overcast or it is raining, the sun’s harmful UV rays can damage your skin. Therefore, before leaving the house, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 or higher rating. Matte-finish sunscreens are considered best for this season.

6. ‘No touch policy’: Avoid touching the face frequently

Countless invisible bacteria and germs accumulate on our hands throughout the day. When we repeatedly touch our cheeks, forehead or chin without washing hands, these bacteria go directly into the facial pores. Apart from this, never touch or burst the pimples, otherwise their scars will remain on the face forever.

7. Pay special attention to hair hygiene

If your hair is very oily or prone to dandruff and it frequently falls on your forehead or face, the oil and bacteria from the hair can cause acne on your face as well. Therefore, keep your hair clean with a good anti-dandruff shampoo two to three times a week and keep them tied and away from the face.

Expert Tip: In monsoon, along with external beauty products, it is also important to keep your body clean from inside. For this, keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least 3 to 4 liters of water throughout the day. If even after taking all these precautions, your pimples are continuously increasing, there is severe pain in them or they are not getting cured, then without any delay consult a good skin specialist (Dermatologist) and start proper treatment.
