Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara has called on his former club to make a move for Marcus Rashford ahead of the summer transfer window. Rashford has spent the last one and a half seasons on loan with Barcelona and Aston Villa. With Manchester United reportedly eager to remove him from their wage structure, O’Hara believes Spurs could land a smart deal to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s squad for the upcoming campaign.
O’Hara pushes Tottenham to take action
Speaking on talkSPORT, O’Hara voiced his enthusiasm for seeing Rashford in a Tottenham shirt. The forward has not featured for Manchester United since December 2024, with subsequent loan spells at Aston Villa in February 2025 and then Barcelona in July 2025.
O’Hara feels Tottenham should seize this opportunity to support De Zerbi’s summer rebuild, particularly after the club narrowly avoided relegation last season. He said: “I would love nothing more than for us to break the bank with wages and get him over the line. It ain’t going to cost you loads of money – what, £30 million, probably?”
Rashford not part of Carrick’s long-term vision
Rashford still has two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, but his prospects under head coach Michael Carrick look uncertain. The England international has enjoyed a distinguished spell with Manchester United, scoring 138 goals and providing 79 assists across 426 appearances for the club.
Nevertheless, with United reportedly keen to ease their financial burden, O’Hara believes Spurs can negotiate a cut-price deal. He added: “You’re going to get him for nothing because they need him off the wage bill. They don’t want him there; his future at Manchester United is gone, right? The only reason he’d be back in the team is if they can’t offload him. If Spurs can work out a deal and bring Marcus Rashford in, he’d be a star player for us. He’s still top drawer.”
Strong loan spells and World Cup resurgence
Although uncertainty surrounds his club career, Rashford has revitalised his form during loan spells and on the international stage. While at Aston Villa, he featured in 17 games, netting four goals and contributing six assists.
His subsequent stint at Barcelona proved even more successful, as he helped the club secure the La Liga title with 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. However, Barcelona opted not to activate their £26 million buy option.
After missing out on Euro 2024, Rashford earned a recall for the 2026 World Cup. He made an instant impact, coming off the bench to score in England’s 4-2 win over Croatia, marking his 19th goal in 75 senior appearances. He then played the full 90 minutes in Thomas Tuchel’s side’s 2-0 victory over Panama.
What lies ahead for Rashford?
England are set to face DR Congo in their first knockout fixture on Wednesday, and Rashford will be hoping his recent performances have strengthened his case for another start under Tuchel. Once the World Cup concludes, Rashford and Carrick will need to address his Manchester United future, with Tottenham possibly ready to make a move should he become available on the transfer market.
