Lifestyle Desk – While the rainy season provides relief from the heat, it also brings with it many health problems. During this time, bacteria and fungus grow rapidly due to moisture and dirt. In such a situation, if proper care of feet is not taken, problems like fungal infection, itching, eczema, peeling of skin and bad smell from feet become common. Many people make some small mistakes every day, which cause these problems. If you want to keep your feet healthy in monsoon, then leave these 5 bad habits today.

Wearing wet shoes or socks for a long time: After getting wet in the rain, many people keep wearing wet shoes and socks for hours. Moist environment is considered most favorable for fungus and bacteria. This increases the risk of infection between the toes. Therefore, change wet socks and shoes as soon as you reach home and wear clean and dry socks only after drying your feet thoroughly.

Not keeping feet properly clean and dry: Just washing feet with water is not enough. During the rainy season, it is very important to clean the feet with mild soap and especially dry the space between the toes thoroughly. If moisture remains there, fungal infection can easily develop. After bathing or coming from outside, dry your feet thoroughly with a clean towel.

Reusing dirty or unwashed socks: Many people wear the same socks again without washing them. Bacteria grow rapidly in socks filled with sweat, dirt and moisture, which can cause infection and foul smell. Wear clean and cotton socks daily. If socks get wet in the rain, change them immediately.

Using other people’s shoes, slippers or towel can easily spread fungal infection from one person to another. If shoes, slippers, socks or towels of an infected person are used, the risk of infection increases. Therefore, avoid sharing your personal things with anyone and always use clean footwear. Ignoring the early symptoms of infection: Persistent itching, redness, burning sensation, whitening of the skin, peeling or foul smell in the feet can be early signs of fungal infection. Many people ignore them considering them to be minor problems, due to which the infection can increase. If such symptoms appear, consult a doctor immediately and avoid applying any medicine or cream without consultation.

Take special care of your feet during monsoon. Try to wear open and quick-drying footwear during the rainy season. Clean the feet daily, keep the nails short and clean and if the feet sweat excessively then antifungal powder can be used with the advice of the doctor. Eating a balanced diet and drinking enough water also helps in keeping the skin healthy. By adopting a little caution and good hygiene habits, problems like fungal infections, eczema and foot odor can be avoided to a great extent during monsoon. If the infection is recurring or spreading rapidly, it would be better to consult a specialist instead of relying on home remedies.
