England captain Harry Kane has described his round of golf with Donald Trump as a “pretty surreal experience”.

The meeting, which Trump had previously spoken about, took place around 18 months ago in Florida.

Earlier in the week, Trump praised the English striker’s golfing abilities while speaking to reporters.

“I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great,” Trump said.

Reflecting on the game, Kane admitted that he was impressed by Trump’s golf skills, especially considering the former U.S. President’s age of 80.

“I played alright, to be fair, but about 18 months ago he invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach,” said the 32-year-old ahead of England’s World Cup quarter-final clash with Norway on Saturday.

“When the President invites you somewhere, it’s a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him.

“His golf is actually quite good. I hope I can play golf as well as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. It was a unique experience, and I was just grateful that he invited me to play.”

Trump had also praised the Bayern Munich forward on his Truth Social platform following England’s 3-2 Round of 16 victory over Mexico, writing: “Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!!!”

Meanwhile, Kane shared that England are determined to make Sir David Beckham proud after the former captain addressed the team before their World Cup quarter-final fixture against Norway.

Beckham visited Thomas Tuchel’s squad as they intensified preparations for the crucial encounter with Erling Haaland and his Norwegian teammates in Miami on Saturday.

On Friday afternoon, the squad trained at the facilities of Inter Miami – the Major League Soccer club co-owned by Beckham.

The 51-year-old icon attended the training session in Fort Lauderdale along with his sons Romeo and Cruz. He spoke to players in the gym before they took to the pitch, having already been present at several of England’s matches during this World Cup campaign.

Kane revealed that Beckham, who earned 115 caps for England, offered words of encouragement as the team aims to reach just their third World Cup semi-final in 60 years.

The Bayern Munich striker said: “He just wished us luck. After most games, he messages me, and we stay in touch.

“He’s a massive England fan. Everyone knows what it meant to him to represent England, to captain the team, and to give his all every time he wore the shirt. He was there to support us.”

“Of course, we were training at his home – the home he built – and we’re grateful to him for allowing us to use it.”

“It was great to catch up with him, and for some of the other lads to chat with him too. He’s an England legend.”

“He was wishing us well, and hopefully we can do him proud tomorrow.”
