The International Cricket Council (ICC) has inducted two legends of Indian cricket, former men’s captain Sourav Ganguly and former women’s captain Anjum Chopra, into the prestigious ‘ICC Hall of Fame’. Former England captain Kevin Pietersen was also honored with this award. The announcement was made at a grand ceremony on Saturday in Edinburgh, Scotland. This honor is given to those players who have made great achievements or special contributions in the world of cricket.

Sourav Ganguly expressed happiness

Sourav Ganguly expressed his happiness after being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Ganguly said, ‘It is a matter of great honor for me to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. It will always be a matter of pride for me to see my name among the names of cricket greats. It was a privilege for me to represent India and to be honored in this way is a very special experience.’ Thanking ICC President Jai Shah, he said it is the highest honor for any cricketer. He expressed his desire to continue serving cricket in the future. Sourav Ganguly has become the 10th Indian cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

Former Indian women’s captain and current cricket commentator Anjum Chopra expressed his happiness. She said, ‘It has always been a matter of pride for me to wear the Indian jersey. Being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame is a tribute to the efforts of all who have shaped my entire career. I am grateful to all of them.’ Anjum Chopra has become the third Indian women’s player to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Earlier this honor was given to Neetu David and Diana Edulji.

Jai Shah congratulated all the three players

ICC President Jai Shah congratulated all the three players. He said, ‘This honor is given to those players who have taken cricket to new heights with their performance and contribution.’ He further said, ‘Sourav Ganguly, Anjum Chopra and Kevin Pietersen have led their respective countries with brilliant performances. With a place in the ICC Hall of Fame, his achievements will be an inspiration for generations to come.’

Ganguly’s international career

Sourav Ganguly scored a total of 18,575 runs in his 16-year international career. He started his career brilliantly by scoring a Test century at Lord’s in 1996. As the captain, he led the Indian team to the final of the 2003 ODI World Cup.

Anjum Chopra’s illustrious career

Anjum Chopra played 12 Tests, 127 ODIs and 14 T20 Internationals for India. Also, she became the first Indian woman cricketer to complete 1,000 runs in women’s ODI cricket. Having played cricket for the Indian team for 17 years, he has scored more than 3,500 runs in international matches. She was the first Indian woman cricketer to play 100 ODIs

Pietersen, one of England’s most successful captains, has also been included in the list. Pietersen has scored 13,797 runs in international cricket for England. Pietersen also thanked the ICC for the honour.
