Manchester United are reportedly close to finalising a deal for Youri Tielemans and have already identified the other positions they intend to strengthen before the current transfer window closes.
The Red Devils have been proactive this summer, having already completed the signings of Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow as their first two arrivals.
United were forced to reassess their midfield plans after missing out on several key targets and withdrawing from a move for Ederson Silva due to concerns over his medical results.
Following the acquisition of Santos, reports indicate that the club moved swiftly to secure Tielemans, activating the release clause in his contract to sign him for approximately £35 million.
Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday morning that Tielemans had already completed his medical ahead of his move to Manchester United.
Romano stated that Tielemans had passed his medical tests and would sign his contract with United later that day. He noted that the agreement would run until June 2031, a five-year deal, describing the transfer as “done and sealed.”
The club’s deal for Tielemans is expected to be officially confirmed in the coming days, while Darlow’s move was completed on Tuesday afternoon.
Following the confirmation of Darlow’s signing, Manchester United correspondent Samuel Luckhurst revealed that the Premier League giants plan to bring in three additional players after Tielemans.
Luckhurst remarked that United’s goalkeeping department now looks strong, adding that the club is “practically halfway there” with their incoming transfers once Tielemans signs. He explained that the club ideally wants to add another midfielder, a forward, and a winger before the window closes.
He also pointed out that Darlow’s move to Old Trafford had been four years in the making, noting that United had previously opted to sign his teammate Martin Dubravka in 2022.
Darlow’s arrival is expected to have a direct impact on Altay Bayindir’s future. According to Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail, the Turkish goalkeeper is now poised to leave the club.
Wheeler explained that Darlow would serve as backup and competition for first-choice goalkeeper Senne Lammens, with veteran Tom Heaton completing the goalkeeping lineup after signing a one-year contract extension. He added that Bayindir, who had been serving as understudy to Lammens and Andre Onana, is now set to depart Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Onana has agreed to rejoin Trabzonspor on a new loan deal for a second consecutive season.
The Athletic has also reported that a third goalkeeper could be on the move this summer. Their report stated that with Darlow’s arrival, Bayindir is expected to leave in pursuit of regular first-team football. Radek Vitek is also likely to seek a move, either on loan or permanently, after impressing last season during his spell at Bristol City.
