New Delhi: JLR has previewed the all-new Range Rover Sport Electric at a private event at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will go on sale worldwide in September of this year and is expected to arrive at Indian showrooms sometime early in 2027.
Apart from the powertrain, the Range Rover Sport Electric is quite identical to the ICE-powered counterpart, both on the inside and outside. This will mark the brand’s second EV after the flagship Range Rover Electric.
What we know about Range Rover Sport ElectricThe Sport’s technical details are mostly shared with the full-size Range Rover. It’s underpinned by JLR’s MLA platform, which was already designed with electrification purpose and has an 800V architecture. The 118.5kWh battery pack is estimated to have a real-world driving range of about 530 km.
Power is delivered by two in-house-developed electric motors, one mounted on each axle, giving the SUV an all-wheel-drive setup. Combined, they make 550 hp and 850 Nm of torque. Despite weighing around 2,700kg, the SUV is expected to go from standstill to 100kph in about 4.4 seconds. That kind of performance is impressive for a vehicle of its size and weight.
It also comes with regenerative braking, although there are no paddles for manual control, just D (which can be configured on the central display as ‘light’ or standard) and S (single-pedal) on the drive selector. In terms of design, apart from the closed-off front grille and the EV badges on tyres, which are a little more aerodynamically optimised, it looks just like an ICE Sport.
Even the interior remains the same and is more tech-leaning, with a premium cabin. The brand has mentioned that it hasn’t just retained the qualities from its ICE counterpart but also improved upon them. The electric SUV is more like another powertrain option. It will compete with the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Electric and BMW iX5 when it hits the sales floor.
