New Delhi: Aamir Khan’s blockbuster hit film, 3 Idiots, is now all set for re-release in theatres. Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial will hit theatres on September 4, 2026.

In a recent development, NH Studioz has acquired the Vidhu Vinod Chopra catalogue, which also includes the film 3 Idiots.

3 Idiots, starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, will be released on Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s birthday, and it also coincides with the Teacher’s Day week.

In the official announcement poster of 3 Idiots, it reads, “Admissions open September 4.”

3 Idiots re-release announced

The 3  Idiots announcement also comes at a time when the film has been in the news after Sonam Wangchuk began his hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, alongside Cockroach Janta Party. While for several years, it was believed that the character ‘Phunsukh Wangdu’, played by Aamir, is inspired by the life of Wangchuk, the actor recently dismissed it.

At the London Film Festival, Aamir set the record straight and clarified, “No, that is not true actually. That is a misconception. I didn’t know about Mr Sonam at that time when we were doing the film, 3 Idiots. I saw a video of Chatur just recently, and he said that. But he is wrong. Maybe that is what Chatur was thinking, but I want to tell you that neither Raju nor Abhijat (Rajkumar Hirani or Abhijat Joshi), who are the two writers, we didn’t know about Mr Sonam. However, what Mr Sonam is doing is good work in any case. He doesn’t have to be based on a character of 3 idiots for us to respect him and the work that he does. I wanted to share this from a factual point of view”

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, NH Studioz has secured rights to a major slate of films from Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films with a deal which is said to be a “staggering three-figure crore amount”.

A source close to the development told the publication, “NH Studioz, under the leadership of Shri Narendra Hirawat and Shreyans Hirawat, has pulled off one of the biggest catalogue acquisitions in recent times by securing the rights to a major slate of films from Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films. The deal is said to be worth a staggering three-figure crore amount.”

The inside further added, “As part of its strategic plans, N H Studioz is set to bring back the iconic blockbuster 3 Idiots to cinemas with a grand re-release on September 4, 2026, giving audiences an opportunity to experience one of Indian cinema’s most beloved films on the big screen once again.”

The Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films catalogue acquired by the NH Studioz includes 3 Idiots, Mission Kashmir, Sanju, Khamosh, Munna Bhai MBBS, Parineeta, Lago Raho Munna Bhai, PK, Parinda, Wazir, Ek Ldki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Shikhara, 1942: A Love Story, Kareeb, The Royal Guard, Broken Horses, and Ferrari Ki Sawaari.
