Liverpool have reportedly shown interest in signing Spain’s World Cup-winning forward Ferran Torres following his match-winning display in New Jersey.

According to various reports, Liverpool are keen on securing the services of Ferran Torres, who was Spain’s hero in the 2026 World Cup final.

The Barcelona attacker netted the decisive goal in the World Cup final against Argentina at New Jersey, firing home from inside the box during the second half of extra time.

Having guided Spain to their second World Cup triumph, Torres now faces an important decision as he enters the final year of his contract at the Nou Camp. Liverpool are said to be among several clubs interested in signing him.

Torres’ dramatic impact off the bench in the final was fitting for a player who has often found it difficult to secure a regular starting berth in his career.

The forward joined Manchester City from Valencia in August 2020 at the age of 20, signing a five-year deal for £20.8 million. He scored 16 goals in 43 appearances before making a move to Barcelona just 17 months later.

The Catalan giants paid £49.5 million to bring Torres to Camp Nou in January 2022, but of his 207 total appearances since then, only 113 have come as a starter.

Because of this, Barcelona were reportedly open to letting the versatile attacker leave for a relatively modest fee this summer. However, his decisive performance in the World Cup final and increasing interest from top European clubs have significantly raised his market value, according to journalist Loic Tanzi of L’Equipe.

Tanzi claims that Liverpool are among the clubs that have recently expressed interest in Torres. Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning back-to-back Champions League winners, are also monitoring the situation closely.

Both clubs are currently managed by Spaniards. Torres previously played under PSG head coach Luis Enrique while representing Spain, while new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, formerly at Bournemouth, took charge at Anfield last month.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that Torres is scheduled to meet with Barcelona officials next week to discuss his future. However, the club are unlikely to engage in formal contract negotiations before September due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

A product of the Valencia academy, Torres can operate across multiple attacking positions and would offer Iraola valuable tactical flexibility. Nonetheless, he might prefer to establish himself as Barcelona’s first-choice centre-forward following Robert Lewandowski’s move to Chicago Fire at the end of last season.

Liverpool have already secured one member of Spain’s World Cup-winning squad this summer, bringing in winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5 million.

Although Munoz did not feature for Spain during the tournament, Iraola is reportedly eager to add more experience and depth to his attacking options ahead of the new season.
