World Brain Day: Why is brain health important?
Today’s hectic lifestyle, constant stress, nutritional deficiencies and insufficient sleep are causing memory loss in people at an early age. The brain is the control center of our body. which governs memory, emotions and many vital body functions. World Brain Day is celebrated on July 22 every year. The purpose of which is to spread awareness about brain diseases and brain health. According to WHO, in 2021 more than 3 billion people worldwide will be affected by some neurological problem.
Omega-3 and antioxidants are essential for the brain
Omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins and essential minerals play an important role in keeping the brain functioning properly. According to experts, regular inclusion of certain nutrients in the diet along with a balanced diet can help maintain brain function. However, no single food can miraculously boost memory. Adequate sleep, regular exercise and stress management are equally important.
Nuts, berries and green vegetables
Walnuts contain omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients, which are believed to be beneficial for brain health. Berries, including blueberries, contain flavonoids and antioxidants, which can help reduce oxidative stress in the body. Green leafy vegetables like spinach, fenugreek and broccoli contain nutrients like vitamin K, lutein, folate and beta-carotene, which are important for overall health.
Pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate are also beneficial
Pumpkin seeds contain minerals such as zinc, magnesium, copper and iron, which are essential for the health of the body and nervous system. On the other hand, dark chocolate containing 70 percent or more cocoa contains flavonoids and antioxidants. Consuming it in limited amounts can help with mood and concentration. If memory loss is persistent or rapid, it is important to seek expert medical advice rather than relying on diet alone.
