New Delhi: In a shocking case reported from the hill state of Uttarakhand, an unemployed nurse allegedly consumed phenyl outside the residence of the state’s Health Minister, Subodh Uniyal in Dehradun. The woman was reportedly seeking a job in the health department. The incident happened on Wednesday.
Woman critical, hospitalised: PoliceAccording to the Uttarakhand Police, the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital soon after she consumed the poisonous liquid. The victim was identified as Kiran Rawat. According to the doctors treating her, she is in a critical condition. They refused to give any definite answer about whether the nurse would survive or not.
The woman reportedly tried to harm herself after not receiving any assurances regarding the initiation of the recruitment process. The police are now trying to contact her family members and are waiting for her to recover, so that a statement can be recorded.
Regarding the demands that the woman was making, a report in the NEW Indian Express said that Rawat wanted the Minister to assure year wise recruitment to nursing posts based on seniority. She alleged that this demand of hers remained unfulfilled, despite sending multiple applications. The news website further claimed that 3 other protestors accompanied the woman and all of them had consumed poison.
The woman is reportedly admitted to Doon Hospital. The 4 had reportedly ended a 150-day long protest in May after receiving assurances from the Uttarakhand Health Minister that their demand would be fulfilled. However, the government allegedly failed on its promises and this led them to attempt to die by suicide.
So far the Health Minister, in front of whose house the suicide bid was made, has not made any statement.
