Arsenal have reportedly begun direct negotiations with Newcastle over a possible move for unsettled midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The 28-year-old Brazil international has already told the Magpies’ hierarchy that he wants to join the Premier League champions before the new season begins.

Gunners begin direct discussions

According to The Sun, Arsenal have opened direct talks with Newcastle to sign Brazil international midfielder Guimaraes, who is keen to push the transfer through. Earlier talks were held through intermediaries, with Newcastle maintaining that the midfielder was not for sale. Arsenal are ready to put forward £60 million, although the Tyneside club are expected to ask for a bigger fee.

Failed targets force change in approach

The Gunners’ strong move for Guimaraes has come after they missed out on Morgan Rogers, who was taken by Premier League rivals Chelsea in a record £117 million deal. Arsenal were not prepared to match Aston Villa’s asking price, and instead decided to turn their attention elsewhere. In addition, a possible £85 million bid for Mateus Fernandes was considered too costly before he joined Tottenham, while Bournemouth are still determined to keep Alex Scott despite the midfielder turning down a new contract offer.

Tzolis deal already completed in principle

As they continue their search for a new midfielder, Arsenal have already acted quickly in attack by agreeing a £34 million fee to sign Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis. The former Norwich City player is said to be in London this week for a medical before completing his move to the Emirates Stadium. This step shows the board’s ambition to settle the first-team squad as they get ready to defend their league title in 2026-27.
