New Delhi. Ramdas Athawale, National President of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) and Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, said that I strongly object to the “Remove Reservation” campaign being run on social media and such posts and campaigns are against the basic spirit of the Indian Constitution and the principles of social justice.
In a press conference on Thursday, Ramdas Athawale said that for the last few days, some people on various social media platforms have been demanding the abolition of reservation in an organized manner.
This is not only an attempt to question the rights granted by the Constitution but is also a tendency to affect social harmony. Such cases will be taken seriously and strict action will be taken as per law.
Ramdas Athawale said that the Constitution created by Babasaheb 'Bharat Ratna' Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar provided the right of reservation to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes with the aim of ensuring social justice.
After this, the government of the then Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh implemented 27 percent reservation for the Other Backward Classes on the basis of the recommendations of the Mandal Commission, due to which the socially and educationally backward classes got equal opportunities.
Ramdas Athawale said that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi further broadened the scope of social justice by providing 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker general category.
This decision taken during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a historic and revolutionary step towards connecting the economically deprived sections of the society with the mainstream.
Ramdas Athawale said that he will write a letter to Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on this subject, urging them to take necessary action against such social media accounts and platforms which are promoting anti-reservation campaign.
The Union Minister of State made it clear that strict action will be taken against such elements within the ambit of the law. Ramdas Athawale ji appealed to the countrymen to respect the Constitution, social harmony and the ideals of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and stay away from divisive and misleading campaigns in the society.
