New Delhi. Korean skincare (K-Beauty) is a huge craze among India’s youth and Gen-Z. Everyone is talking about “glass skin” and “glowing skin.” Dermatologists and expert doctors believe that Korean skincare products are generally safe because they use natural ingredients. They also contain ingredients like ceramides, centella, and hyaluronic acid, which strengthen and repair the skin’s protective layer (skin barrier).

Korean beauty products (K-Beauty) are currently in high demand in the Indian market. Sales have increased exponentially on platforms like Sugar Pop, Tira, and Sugar Cosmetics. Let’s understand the main reasons, demand, and multi-million dollar business.

K-Pop and K-Drama stars like BTS, Korean singers, and Korean drama actors are very popular in India. Seeing their clear and glowing skin, today’s youth are adopting similar skincare routines.

Focus on healthy skin. In the past, people used to be obsessed with fairness creams. However, today’s generation, instead of being fair, wants to keep their skin healthy, hydrated, and pimple-free. Korean products nourish the skin from within.

Natural and safe ingredients: Korean products use natural ingredients like rice water, green tea, and centella. These are much gentler and safer on the skin than harsh chemicals.

Smaller packs at lower prices: Small mini packs of Korean brands are now readily available online, making them easy for students and young people to purchase even within their budgets.

Huge demand and crores of business, price and budget

Their main products like snail mucin or toner range from around Rs 800 to Rs 1,500, while mini-packs start at around Rs 400.

Market and profit

The K-Beauty market in India has grown from approximately ₹3,000 crore to ₹6,000 crore today. These companies earn gross profit margins of approximately 50% to 70%, allowing these brands to earn hundreds of thousands of crores of rupees in net profits each year.

Social Media and Reels

Videos of ‘Glass Skin Routine’ and ‘7-Skin Method’ go viral very fast on Instagram and YouTube. The aesthetic and cute packaging of these products looks great in the videos, which inspires the youth to buy them immediately.

Easy availability and budget options in India
have made Korean brands easily available in India thanks to platforms like Nykaa, Tira, Maccaron, Lakmé, Sugar Cosmetics, and Amazon. Furthermore, many affordable K-Beauty brands and products in smaller, mini/trial pack sizes have also entered the market, keeping the youth’s budget in mind.
