Police stopped Kejriwal as he was marching towards the PM’s residence; he was on his way to submit a memorandum against E-20 petrol.
Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders were stopped by Delhi Police at Ferozeshah Marg on Tuesday while marching with about 100 people towards the Prime Minister’s residence to submit over 2.30 lakh memorandums against the sale of E-20 petrol in the country. After being stopped by the police, Kejriwal, along with former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Jasmine Shah, and other party leaders, sat on a sit-in protest on Ferozeshah Marg.

The AAP had started the march with about 100 people to submit memorandums collected from people across the country. These memorandums were against the government’s policy of promoting E-20 petrol, alleging that the ethanol-blended fuel was adversely affecting vehicle owners. Addressing supporters before the march, Kejriwal said the party was carrying over 2.30 lakh memorandums signed by people across the country and urged the government to address the concerns of crores of vehicle owners.

“We are going to the Prime Minister’s residence with over 2.30 lakh memorandums signed by people across the country. We want the government to listen to the concerns of crores of vehicle owners who are facing problems due to E20 petrol,” he said. Police sources said protesters would not be allowed to proceed beyond 5, Feroz Shah Marg.

“No one will be allowed to proceed beyond 5, Feroz Shah Marg. We have deployed a large number of security forces, including the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, to maintain law and order,” he said. This protest comes just days after the AAP held an ethanol public meeting and launched a signature campaign against E20 fuel. Kejriwal had previously written to the Prime Minister seeking a meeting with him to discuss concerns to ethanol-blended petrol.
