Mumbai: The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards, one of the most prestigious honors in Indian cinema, have been announced. Honoring the outstanding performances of films and actors released in 2024, several prominent names have won National Awards. This year, Kartik Aaryan was named Best Actor for “Chandu Champion” and Mammootty for “Brahmayugam.” Yami Gautam won the National Award for Best Actress for “Article 370.”

The film “Article 370” achieved several significant achievements this year. It won the Best Feature Film award, while Shashwat Sachdev was awarded Best Music Direction for the film. Regional cinema also dominated the awards this year. “Committi Kullu” won Best Telugu Film, “Raayan” won Best Tamil Film, “Mukkam Post Bombilwadi” won Best Marathi Film, “Feminichi Fatima” won Best Malayalam Film, and “Shrikant” won Best Hindi Feature Film. Furthermore, films in Odia, Kannada, Gujarati, Bengali, Assamese, Manipuri, and Garhwali were honored in various categories.

In the technical category, Vijay Ganguly won Best Choreography for the song “Aaj Ki Raat” from “Stree 2.” Deepali Noor won Best Costume for “Pushpa 2,” Nitin Chaudhary won Best Production Design for “Kalki 2898 AD,” and Best Sound Design for “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.” Sanjay Mishra was named Best Supporting Actor.
How was the selection done?
This year, films considered for the National Awards received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. The winners were selected by an 11-member jury, chaired by veteran filmmaker Jayaraj. After evaluating films from across the country, the jury determined the winners in various categories and presented them with awards.
