At a time when FIFA president Gianni Infantino is coming under mounting criticism from several figures and organisations across world football, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has publicly expressed its support for his leadership.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the AFA commended Infantino's decade at the helm of FIFA, pointing to what it called major progress in the global development of the sport, along with a governance approach built on stability, transparency and long-term growth.
The statement also referred to FIFA's recent proposal to allow greater private investment in football, an initiative that triggered widespread debate before it was ultimately withdrawn. The AFA welcomed FIFA's decision to drop the project, praising the organisation for recognising the concerns that had been raised, admitting mistakes made during the process and offering an apology.
The Argentine governing body said Infantino had presided over a period of significant change, making FIFA more open to collaboration with member associations and continental confederations through what it described as honest and constructive dialogue.
The AFA ended by reaffirming its confidence in Infantino's leadership, insisting that continuing under his guidance is the best way to drive the growth of football worldwide while ensuring the sport becomes ever more inclusive and accessible at every level.
