Marcus Rashford, England's international forward, has once again found himself at the centre of an unresolved call at Manchester United.
As per a report in Sport, Rashford is back at Old Trafford after reviving his form during a loan spell at Barcelona. Even so, there is still no clarity over what comes next for him.
Barcelona helped him recover much of the sharpness and level he had lost in the closing phase of his time at Manchester United.
The England attacker finished the 2025-2026 season with 49 appearances, 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
He also played an important role in Hansi Flick's team as Barcelona won both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
Still, the Catalan club decided against taking the deal further. They did not activate the clause that would have made his move permanent for 30 million euros.
Doubts at Manchester United
That meant Rashford returned to Manchester United, and this is where the real dilemma starts.
According to The Telegraph, manager Michael Carrick continues to believe he can bring the best out of Rashford.
The possibility of reintegrating him into the side remains alive, with Carrick convinced that Rashford deserves an opportunity to show that the player who impressed at Barcelona can also thrive again at Old Trafford.
Their relationship also works in Rashford's favour. Carrick knows him well, and reports in England say he is prepared to work with the forward.
However, the manager's view and the club's broader plan are not necessarily the same. Reports from England state that United's hierarchy are still considering the offers that have come in for Rashford.
United are also aware that selling him would ease a financial burden, given that the forward is among the club's highest earners.
The difficulty lies in finding a buyer. A club would need to be ready to cover those wages and also pay a transfer fee acceptable to United. During the summer, a figure close to 40 million pounds was discussed.
More than anything else, Rashford's future may ultimately be shaped by the transfer market itself.
Where will Rashford play?
As the weeks go by, Manchester United still have not secured a dependable winger who would justify letting go of a player coming off a season with 14 goals and 11 assists.
United have assessed a number of options for the wide areas. No obvious answer has appeared so far, and that may significantly improve Rashford's chances of remaining at the club.
Why would they move on from a forward who has recently rediscovered his form and already understands exactly what the Premier League requires, unless someone arrives who can clearly upgrade the position or replace him with certainty?
In fact, the English media believe the chances of Rashford staying in Manchester have grown stronger with time.
Even so, his future is still completely open. A number of factors will determine whether the England forward stays on at Manchester United or leaves for a new club.
