What about skin care and mouth? Cleansers, toners, scrubs, masks, serums, moisturizers, body oils, exfoliators—the list goes on. There are also separate day and night creams, and more cosmetics depending on whether the skin is dry or oily, or has any other problem. Moreover, if you keep an eye on social media, you can often see new cosmetic products, most of which are advertised in such a way that the customer has the idea that they must buy it.

Are you buying tons of cosmetics just to follow social media trends?

A part-time social media content creator also told viewers that her skincare routine consists of countless steps. In other words, if you want a shiny smooth skin like them, you have to buy a lot of cosmetics (Skincare Products).

But in reality the situation is usually not as desired. If many cosmetics are used together on the skin, dryness, irritation, acne etc. may appear instead of benefits. Dermatologists therefore say that the key to skincare is not the number of products, but the usage.

1. The skin becomes 'overloaded' with excess cosmetics

Every skincare product has different ingredients. Too many active ingredients together create unnecessary pressure on the skin. Especially when used together with acids, retinoids, etc., skin sensitivity increases. 'Anti-ageing', 'brightening', 'acne care'—purchasing different serums for each problem doesn't make skin better.

2. The skin's natural 'barrier' is damaged

The outer layer of the skin helps to retain moisture and protect it from harmful external elements. Excessive cleansing or exfoliation weakens this barrier.

3. It is difficult to understand which product is having problems

Let's say you start using five new products. After a few days, acne or redness appeared on the skin. It is then quite difficult to pinpoint which product is causing the problem. Oftentimes, skin sensitivities can lead to new problems with products that were previously tolerated.

Buy cosmetics only after understanding the needs of the skin.

So what would the ideal skincare routine look like?

If you understand the needs of the skin and use a mild cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen, nothing else is needed. Instead, face packs or body scrubs made of natural ingredients can be used. It makes the skin much brighter and naturally smooth.

Before buying a new product, ask yourself, do you really need it, or are you just attracted to it to follow the trend? It is not right to choose a product just by looking at the advertisement claims without knowing about the ingredients.
