Chennai: Suriya’s latest family entertainer Vishwanath and Sons has made a strong start at the box office, collecting ₹15.15 crore in India net and around ₹27.51 crore worldwide gross on its opening day, according to Sacnilk figures cited by The Times of India.
The film, directed by Venky Atluri, released in theatres on August 14 and stars Suriya alongside Mamitha Baiju, with Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon also part of the cast.
Tamil and Telugu versions perform well
The film recorded an overall India occupancy of around 42.2% on its first day. The Tamil version contributed ₹9.15 crore in net collections, while the Telugu version earned ₹6 crore net, according to Sacnilk.
Tamil Nadu remained the biggest contributor among the states, while Karnataka recorded a gross collection of approximately ₹1.80 crore.
The film has also generated positive early reactions, particularly for its family-oriented treatment, performances and emotional elements.
Weekend could bring bigger numbers
Released during the Independence Day weekend, Vishwanath and Sons has several factors working in its favour, including Suriya’s popularity and encouraging early word of mouth.
The film’s performance over the next few days will be important in determining whether it can maintain its opening momentum and turn the strong start into a successful theatrical run.
For Suriya and the team, the ₹27.51-crore worldwide opening provides an encouraging beginning as the film enters its crucial first weekend.
