Immunity Booster For Babies: As soon as the little guest arrives in the house, everyone feels like taking him in his lap, hugging him and kissing him lovingly. Especially for the mother, every smile of the child is no less than magic. But, does a mother’s love only provide emotional security to the child or can it also affect his immune system? You may also be surprised to hear this question. In fact, according to experts, skin contact, hugs and love between mother and baby can be important for the emotional development of the child. At the same time, the antibodies and other bioactive components present in mother’s milk provide important protection to the baby’s immune system in the early stages.

According to some scientific myths, close contact between mother and infant exposes the mother to certain microbes from the baby’s mouth and surrounding environment, which may play a role in the immune protection provided during breastfeeding. For this reason, this claim is also discussed on social media that a mother kissing her child ‘boosts’ his immunity. But it is very important to understand an important difference here – this does not mean that kissing the child increases immunity like any vaccine or medicine. Dr Anuradha HS has shared some interesting information regarding this on Instagram-

What happens when a mother kisses her child?

  • The doctor says that to boost the immunity power of the baby, kiss him repeatedly on the nose, mouth and cheeks. Research shows that when a mother kisses her child repeatedly, she expels the germs from her child’s mouth and skin.
  • When mother kisses, memory cells get activated and they start producing antibodies, which are very specific and customized for the germs. These antibodies pass into her breast milk and coat the baby’s mouth and intestines when she feeds the baby. And blocks and kills these harmful bacteria. Which helps the child to remain healthy and fight these infections.

When should a mother stop kissing her child?

  • If the mother has cold, cough, fever, sore throat or cold sores on the lips, then she should avoid kissing the child. At such times, the infection can reach the child quickly, because his immunity is weak.
  • The immunity of a newborn baby, premature baby or a sick child is very low. Special care should be taken before kissing such children, so that any kind of infection does not spread.
  • It is not right to kiss a child without washing hands and face after coming from outside. Germs from outside can be harmful for the child.
  • One should avoid kissing the child after eating food or without cleaning the mouth. The bacteria present in the mouth can harm the health of the child.
  • To express love, instead of kissing on the lips, it is considered safer to lightly kiss the child’s forehead or head. Taking care of cleanliness, mother’s love is the biggest protection for the child.
