UP Board Exam 2027: The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has announced changes to the examination pattern for the Intermediate level (Classes 11 and 12) for the 2026-27 academic session. Based on recommendations from the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023, and the National Assessment Centre (PARAKH), these changes will be implemented starting with Class 11 in the new session. Under this new system, the written examination for UP Board Intermediate classes will carry 80 marks, while 20 marks will be allocated for internal assessment.
Currently, UP Board Class 12 subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Home Science feature a 70-mark written exam and a 30-mark practical exam. Meanwhile, non-practical subjects like Hindi, English, Sanskrit, and Economics have a 100-mark written exam. However, with the implementation of these changes, it has been decided to introduce a 20-mark internal assessment component for non-practical subjects as well, and to reduce the practical exam component from 30 marks to 20 marks. Preparations are underway to implement these changes starting with Class 11 in the next academic session.
**35% of Class 11-12 Exam Questions to be Application-Based**
Experts from the State Institute of Education have prepared sample papers for History, Geography, Economics, and Civics for Classes 11 and 12. In line with PARAKH's suggestions, the highest proportion of questions—accounting for 35% of the marks—will be application-based. Previously, UP Board question papers were set and evaluations conducted based on four parameters: knowledge (20%), comprehension (30%), application (30%), and skill (20%). However, under the new question paper format, students will be assessed based on six parameters: knowledge (17.5%), comprehension (17.5%), application (35%), analysis (22%), evaluation (4%), and creation (4%).
**Questions from Every Unit**
The UP Board Intermediate question papers are being redesigned. It has been made mandatory to include questions from every unit, and the weightage for each unit has been specified. Students will need to study every unit, as the question paper does not include external choice questions. The number of descriptive questions has been reduced. For long-answer questions, internal choices will be provided; these alternative questions will correspond to the same unit, objective, and difficulty level. The questions included in the paper will foster the development of students' evaluative, analytical, and creative abilities.
