The festive season is going to start in India in a few days, but before that an important news has come from the automobile sector. Tata Motors has given a big shock to car enthusiasts and people who are planning to buy. If you were thinking of bringing home a new Tata car or SUV during Ganesh Chaturthi or Navratri, now you will have to spend more money.
The company officially announced on Friday that it will increase the prices of all its passenger vehicles from September 1, 2026. Under this decision, the ex-showroom prices of vehicles will increase by up to ₹ 25,000. Tata Motors vehicles are famous in the Indian market for their strong safety ratings and great features. In such a situation, the price hike just before the festive season could spoil the budget of lakhs of customers who were planning to book a new car for the upcoming festivals.
**Prices increased for the third time**
The special thing is that this is the third increase in prices by Tata Motors in 2026. Earlier this year, the company had increased the prices of its petrol and diesel models by an average of 0.5% from April 1. Subsequently, three months later, it increased the prices of all its passenger trains by about 1.5%. Now, this third increase of up to ₹25,000 in a year will put additional financial burden on customers.
**Reason for increasing prices**
The automobile sector has been struggling with rising raw material costs for the last few months. Manufacturing vehicles has become expensive due to rising supply chain costs of steel, aluminum and other essential parts. In an official statement, Tata Motors said it was bearing a major portion of the long-running rising costs so as not to burden customers. However, it has now become almost impossible for the company to bear these costs alone. To maintain this balance without compromising on the quality or features of the vehicle, it has been decided to increase the prices slightly.
**EV models also affected**
The thing to note is that the price increase of Tata Motors will not be limited to only petrol, diesel or CNG vehicles; The company is also increasing the prices of all its electric vehicles. This means that prices of popular SUVs like Tata Nexon, Punch, Harrier and Safari – as well as hatchbacks like Tiago, Altroz and Tigor – will increase. Additionally, from September 1, customers will have to pay more for best-selling electric vehicles like Nexon EV, Punch EV and Tiago EV.
**What will be the effect of this?**
This decision of Tata Motors will affect all its passenger vehicles. According to the company, prices may increase by up to ₹25,000. How much the price will increase will depend on the model and variant of the vehicle; For example, if you are buying Tata's cheapest car, Tiago, the impact will be very minimal.
On the contrary, if you are thinking of buying a large SUV like Safari, Harrier or Curvv, you may have to spend a little more money. The company has also clarified that these new prices will be applicable equally to both petrol/diesel engine vehicles and electric vehicles.
