Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid has said something important about the future of young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Dravid said that he is happy that after performing brilliantly in white ball cricket, Vaibhav is now focusing on red ball cricket also.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi: Young Indian cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi has proved his talent in white-ball cricket at an early age. Vaibhav, who won the Orange Cap by performing brilliantly in IPL 2026, is now preparing to prove himself in red-ball cricket as well. Meanwhile, former Indian captain and veteran batsman Rahul Dravid has given important advice regarding the future of this young player. Dravid believes that for Vaibhav, it is important to pay adequate attention to Test cricket along with T20 and ODI cricket.
Dravid gave great advice to Vaibhav Suryavanshi
According to Rahul Dravid, the most important thing in this early phase of Vaibhav Suryavanshi's career is to strike the right balance. After performing brilliantly on a big stage like IPL, Vaibhav got a place in the Indian team and he also made his T20 International debut on the England tour. Now his focus is towards domestic cricket and red-ball cricket.
Dravid said that it is good that Vaibhav is getting the experience of T20 and ODI cricket through IPL, but along with this he should also get the opportunity to play Test matches in Indian domestic cricket. According to him, it is important for a player to adapt to all three formats to have a successful long-term career.
Dravid also said that young players like Vaibhav are needed to take Test cricket forward. If such cricketers strengthen their technique in the red-ball format, then Indian cricket can benefit a lot in the future.
Still need experience in red-ball cricket
In comparison to the rapid success that Vaibhav has achieved in white-ball cricket, his experience in red-ball cricket is still quite limited. Dravid believes that Vaibhav will need both time and consistent opportunities to perform better in this format. The former Indian legend said that Vaibhav should get a chance to play red-ball cricket for a long time.
He admitted that the young batsman has played less Test or red-ball cricket so far compared to white-ball cricket. In such a situation, it would not be appropriate to expect the same level of performance from him immediately, as he has done in the IPL. In red-ball cricket, a batsman needs a different kind of technique, patience and mental strength.
Facing fast bowlers for long spells, batting against the new and old ball and staying at the crease for many hours is a completely different challenge from T20 cricket. For Vaibhav, domestic cricket can prove to be an important platform to strengthen these aspects.
Big success at the age of 15
Referring to Vaibhav's age, Rahul Dravid also appealed to the people to be patient towards him. Vaibhav is just 15 years old and has achieved great success at such a young age. His brilliant performance with the bat was seen in IPL 2026, after which he was included in the Indian team. According to Dravid, despite the success achieved at such a young age, it is natural to have ups and downs in Vaibhav's career.
Therefore his performance should not be assessed on the basis of one or two innings or matches. It is important to give adequate time to the young cricketer to learn and improve his game.
Keep an eye on red-ball cricket in Duleep Trophy
After his strong performance in IPL 2026, Vaibhav traveled to the Indian team. Now he is moving towards strengthening his red-ball technique in domestic cricket. His playing for East Zone in Duleep Trophy is being considered an important step in this direction. This tournament will be a good opportunity for Vaibhav to test his batting technique and understand the challenges of the longer format. If he is successful in scoring runs consistently in domestic red-ball cricket, then his claim for Test cricket can also be strengthened in the future.
