Punjab News: The Legal Metrology Wing of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department of Punjab has consistently shown excellent performance in terms of compounding fees collected from January this year to July 2026 and inspections conducted during the same period.
In the case of compounding fees, the Legal Metrology Wing collected Rs 53.26 lakh from January to July 2026. The wing conducted 14412 inspections and 1062 challans during the same period.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak praised the officers of the department for providing prompt services and appealed to them to work with more activeness and dedication in the future.
Main objective of Legal Metrology Wing
It is noteworthy that the wing has department-owned standard laboratories in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala, while new laboratories on similar lines will soon be built in Sirhind and Khanna. The main objective of the Legal Metrology Wing is to ensure that the quantity and quality of goods sold or purchased are actually correct while protecting the interests of consumers.
