Railways launches water tank cleaning drive – Read

New Delhi, Aug 25:
Indian Railways has launched a nationwide drive to clean and disinfect drinking-water tanks and filtration systems at railway stations after a CAG audit flagged serious lapses in water quality.
The audit of more than 500 stations had found deficiencies, including the presence of harmful bacteria such as E. coli in water coolers at some locations.
All 18 railway zones have been directed to inspect water sources, treatment and filtration plants, underground and overhead tanks, water booths and dispensing points. The Railways is also strengthening water testing and monitoring systems across the network.
