Bengaluru: The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has cancelled its 34th Annual Convocation citing “unavoidable circumstances.”
The decision of the premier law institute comes amid a section of graduating students and alumni objecting to the proposed invitation of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra to next month’s convocation event.
The protesting students had also demanded an unconditional apology from BCI to the student and faculty community of the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad, after the Bar Council first issued, and then withdrew its order freezing the enrolment of the entire 2026 graduating batch of NALSAR.
The National Law School of India University informed graduating students about the decision to cancel the September 12 convocation event through a notice on August 27.
“Despite our collective best efforts, due to unavoidable circumstances, we are unable to hold the 34th Annual Convocation,” the notice stated.
Students will have the option of receiving their certificates by courier or collecting them from the campus.
The university said it will share a form and the process with graduating students, where they will be able to indicate their preferred option.
