Dubai, August 31: India kicked off their Women's campaign with a commanding 94-run Thailand. After posting a score of 159/9, the 'Women in Blue' dismissed their opponents for just 65 runs.

Batting first after losing the toss, the Indian team had a strong start but managed only 159 runs after losing 9 wickets. The opening pair of and Shafali Verma put together a partnership of 38 runs in just 18 balls. Mandhana scored 19 runs off 10 balls before being dismissed, after which Shafali and Pratika Rawat added 53 runs for the second wicket in 36 balls, putting the team in a solid position.
India faced a setback when Pratika (22) was dismissed on the last ball of the ninth over, leading to a collapse. The 'Women in Blue' lost four wickets between the 13th and 17th overs. Shafali, named 'Player of the Match,' scored 64 runs off 36 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 8 fours before returning to the pavilion.
By the 17.2 over mark, India had only managed 137 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. However, Kranti Gaud (not out 15) and Shree Charani (not out 6) formed an unbeaten partnership of 22 runs for the last wicket, helping the team reach a challenging total. India lost their last seven wickets for just 29 runs.
For Thailand, Suliporn Laomi took 3 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs, while Sunida Chaturongratthana claimed 2 wickets. Chanida Sutthiruang and Thipatcha Putthawong each took 1 wicket.
In response, Thailand was bowled out for just 65 runs in 16.1 overs. They lost their first wicket, Nattakan Chantam (4), on the fifth ball. Despite Nannapat Koncharoenkae holding the innings together, she received little support from the other batsmen. Nannapat scored 41 runs off 48 balls with 5 fours before becoming the last wicket to fall. No other batsman managed to reach double figures.
For India, Deepti Sharma's bowling was exceptional, as she took 3 wickets in just 1.1 overs without conceding a run. Nandini also took 3 wickets for 18 runs. Shree Charani claimed 2 wickets, while Kranti Gaud took 1.
The Indian team, placed in Group A, will face Hong Kong in their next match on September 3, followed by a clash against Pakistan on September 5.
