Brits planning a bucket-list holiday to Japan could explore much more of the country this winter without paying extra for domestic flights.

All Nippon Airways, better known as ANA, has relaunched its popular Stopover & Add-on Free Fare, offering international passengers up to two free domestic flights when booked alongside eligible international flights.

The offer covers travel between December 1, 2026 and February 28, 2027, with bookings open from September 1 to September 30, 2026.

The promotion was first launched last year as part of a campaign with Japan’s tourism board to encourage visitors to explore beyond the country’s biggest tourist hotspots. Following its success, ANA is bringing the deal back for another winter season.

There is one important catch. The domestic flights must be booked at the same time as the international flights, rather than being added after arriving in Japan.

ANA’s domestic network covers more than 40 destinations, giving British travellers plenty of options for extending their trip.

Most visitors from the UK will fly into Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, but the free flights could then be used to reach some of Japan’s more distant destinations.

Okinawa is one option, offering tropical beaches and tiny islands in the country’s far south. It could provide a dramatic change of scenery after exploring Tokyo’s skyscrapers, temples and busy streets.

Another choice is Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu, which is known for its seaside setting and food. Visitors can sample local specialities including Hakata ramen and mentaiko while exploring another side of Japan.

For those hoping to see snow, Sapporo could be the perfect winter stop.

The Hokkaido capital is one of the world’s snowiest cities and will host its famous Snow Festival from February 4 to 11 next year. The event attracts visitors with enormous snow and ice sculptures across the city.

The free flights could therefore turn a traditional Tokyo city break into a much bigger Japanese adventure.

Travellers could spend a few days in the capital before heading north to snowy Hokkaido, south to tropical Okinawa or west to Fukuoka.

The offer applies across all cabins, but travellers should check the eligibility and route conditions when booking.

For anyone already considering Japan between December and February, the promotion could make it easier to see several very different parts of the country without adding the cost of two internal flights to an already expensive long-haul holiday.

Instead of simply ticking Tokyo off the bucket list, visitors could use the capital as a launchpad to discover much more of Japan.
