Kai Havertz underlines Arsenal value with another important goal

When Arsenal are searching for a goal, Kai Havertz often proves to be the man who delivers.

The Gunners were rocked at the Emirates on Sunday when London rivals Chelsea raced into the lead inside the opening two minutes. It was Morgan Rogers — a player linked with a move to Arsenal during the summer — who found the net with the decisive strike.

Even so, in the manner of champions, that early blow did not knock Mikel Arteta’s side off course, and they responded before the interval.

Riccardo Calafiori first believed he had brought Arsenal level a little under 10 minutes later, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

Havertz then got the equaliser shortly before the half-hour mark, scoring once again against his former club, who increasingly look like one of his favourite opponents.

That strike means the 27-year-old has now scored three goals in his last four matches, and if the closing stages of last season are included, he has six goals in his last eight starts for Arsenal.

Given that Arsenal’s marquee striker signing from last summer, Viktor Gyökeres, is currently having to settle for a place on the bench, the Sweden international has little case to make while Havertz continues to put up these numbers.
