A popular BBC crime thriller has scored a second season featuring a Game of Thrones and Derry Girls star. The new season will reportedly have three new leads!

BBC’s Nightsleeper has been renewed for Season 2. It will feature GOT and Derry Girls star Ian McElhinney as Charlie. Moreover, Colin Morgan, Madeleine Mantock, and Christian Cooke are set to lead Nightsleeper Season 2 as Stephen ‘Bo’ Bowen, Beth, and Johnny, respectively.

Along with the aforementioned ensemble, Rupert Penry-Jones and Sally Lindsay will also be part of the new season. Parth Thakerar, Jonjo O’Neill, and Micah Balfour will return from the first season for Season 2. However, the Season 1 leads, Joe Cole and Ruth Madeley, will not be reprising their roles.

Additional cast members include Alexander Arnold, Lydia Page, Christine Bottomley, Julie Dray, Pooky Quesnel, Jonathan Harden, Mickey Mason, Kevin Harvey, Cúán Hosty-Blaney, Eileen O’Higgins, and more.

What happened in the first season of BBC’s Nightsleeper?

Nightsleeper Season 1 was centered around an overnight sleeper train, traveling from Glasgow to London. The train was hijacked by a group of cyber-terrorists. Joe Roag, an off-duty cop, was abroad, coordinating with Abby Aysgarth at the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in London to prevent a catastrophic collision. Season 2 follows a similar plot.

According to Deadlinein Season 2, a Belfast-to-Liverpool passenger ferry becomes the target of a potentially deadly hack-attack. The crew desperately tries to hide the extent of the threat from the passengers. Meanwhile, the ferry’s second engineer, Johnny, works with the National Cyber Security Center’s new technical director, Bo, to fight back.

The sequel to the BBC series is directed by James Kent and Chris Baugh and written by Nick Leather. Jonathan Curling and Maria Mulhall will serve as producers for the series. The filming for Nightsleeper Season 2 has already begun in Belfast, UK.
