The controversy regarding the actual age of the main accused in the Tarun murder case of Uttam Nagar is continuously deepening. Scrutiny of birth records and identity documents has started after two different birth certificates and two Aadhaar numbers surfaced in the name of the accused. An important hearing in the case will be held on September 15 in SDM Vikaspuri office and Juvenile Justice Board (JJ Board), Dwarka.

Four years difference between two birth certificates

SDM Vikaspuri office said in the notice issued on September 14 that a report has been received from the Registrar of Births and Deaths, West Zone of MCD regarding two birth certificates of the accused. According to the report, the date of birth is recorded as 7 October 2007 in the first certificate, which was registered on 27 February 2008. Whereas in the second certificate, the date of birth is recorded as 7 October 2011 and its registration was done on 13 February 2018. This registration was done on the basis of Delayed Birth Registration order issued by the then Tehsildar, Dwarka on January 22, 2018. In this way there is a difference of four years in the date of birth in both the records. Apart from this, it has also come to light that the accused has two different Aadhaar numbers in his name.

Final hearing in SDM office on 15th September

A final hearing will be held on September 15 at 11 am in the SDM Vikaspuri office to investigate the discrepancies in the documents. The main accused, his parents and complainant Tek Chand have been directed to appear in person.

They will have to present the original birth certificate, school records, both Aadhaar cards and identity documents of the parents. Also, if there are two birth records and Aadhaar numbers, written explanation will have to be given. In case of absence, a unilateral decision can be taken on the basis of available records.

Hearing on age in JJ Board also

On the other hand, hearing regarding the age of the accused is also going on in JJ Board-Dwarka. The issue of birth records and two Aadhaar numbers came up in the proceedings on September 9. The victim's side has raised questions on the accused's claim of being a minor, citing a video that is about 14 years old. On behalf of the prosecution, advocate Sumit Chauhan will cross-examine the documents and age facts. The victim's side has demanded interrogation of the parents of the accused.

Controversy over the age of Aadhar card

The defense argues that the Aadhaar card is not conclusive proof of date of birth. At the same time, the Special Public Prosecutor has said that further action will be taken regarding age determination. The JJ Board has directed to produce the mother of the accused, who is lodged in Tihar Jail, through a production warrant at 2 pm on September 15. The father of the accused has also been issued summons to be present in the board at the same time.
